Composition No. 1 has been reformulated. The architecture did not change. Neither did the price. The formula beneath it did.
AUTEUR formulas evolve as material science advances. The oil phase has been increased and a new emulsifier system built to hold it. Hamamelis has been removed to improve the clarity of the formula, which is why the cream now reads pale green rather than tinted. The change in appearance is deliberate.

The ritual
One step, once a night.
Composition No. 1 sits between essence and cream in the evening routine. It replaces the retinol step. Do not layer with another retinol in the same evening. Sunscreen daily.
Cleanse and prepare
Definitive Enzyme Cleanser, then Superlative Essence or toner. Skin should be clean and dry.
Press, do not rub
Apply across face, neck and decolletage. Press gently into the skin until absorbed. The finish is matte and comfortable.
Seal
Follow with Definitive Eye Cream and Restoration Cream. Leave the night to do the rest.

Three ways to treat skin at night. One of them is complete.
A single retinol works one pathway. A layered routine works several, in separate bottles, with separate rules. Composition No. 1 is the third option: the whole night's work, formulated together, in one step.

The evening ritual
Composition first. Eye Cream after.
Composition No. 1 addresses the face, neck and decolletage. The Definitive Eye Cream addresses the skin around the eye, where the formula is not applied. Applied in that order, they complete the evening as two steps.

I already use Composition No. 1. What changed?
The concept, the name and the price are the same. The formula has evolved: four structural renewal technologies added, a broader ceramide barrier system in place of one ceramide, encapsulated retinol in place of direct retinol, a richer oil phase with a new emulsifier system, fragrance removed and hamamelis removed. Fifty three ingredients became seventy five. Use it exactly as before.
Why is the cream a different colour?
Hamamelis extract, which tinted the previous formula, has been removed to improve clarity. The evolved formula reads pale green from its actives and soft focus powders. Texture is close to the original and spreads further.
Can I use it with Retinol Serum?
No. Composition No. 1 contains encapsulated retinol and replaces the retinol step. Use one or the other in a given evening. Use sunscreen daily.
Morning or night?
Night. Apply after essence or toner and before eye cream and cream. It is formulated to work across the skin's overnight repair cycle.
Is it suitable for sensitive skin?
The formula is fragrance free and the retinol is encapsulated for controlled release and tolerance. If you are new to retinol, begin three nights a week and build to nightly. If pregnant or nursing, speak with your physician before using any retinol product. The full ingredient list is below.
How long does one bottle last?
Used nightly across face, neck and decolletage, one 50 ml bottle carries you through the first two skin cycles. Replenish before it runs out so the routine is not interrupted.
